USMC Rules For Gun Fighting

Bring a gun. Preferably, bring at least two guns. Bring all of your friends who have guns.

Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Ammo is cheap. Life is expensive.

Only hits count. A close miss is still a miss.

If your shooting stance is good, you're probably not moving fast enough nor using cover correctly.

his little Tmsuk T-34 (no relation, unfortunately) security robot, jointly developed by a Japanese robotics company and a Japanese security firm, is designed to replace human security guards in corporate environments. It’s basically a little remote controlled car, controllable through a video camera via a cellphone. The T-34 is equipped with microphones and body heat sensors and can zip along at 10 kph, and if it finds a perp doing something naughty, it can fire a net at them. And then, ...

The world needs more giant robots. This is the philosophy of Jaimie Mantzel, who has taken it upon himself to create his own giant robot for the world to enjoy. His plans are to construct a 12 foot tall, 18 foot wide hexapod that a human can sit in and pilot. He has a working model, which you can see in the vid below:

This all seems like a little bit of a pipe dream, and it kinda is, since Jaimie is in desperate need of a bunch of pipe. He’s already put some serious work into ...

When size is a factor, surveillance robots generally seem to fall into one of two categories: small enough to perform relevant tasks but still be portable, or absolutely as small as possible. Meso-scale is one step above the as small as possible MAVs, but significantly smaller than most conventional robots. The compromise is designed to allow for favorable scaling and low costs, and back in 1999 Stanford took a crack at developing a centimeter scale rotary surveillance platform called the ...

Getting tired of your puny human arm? Now you can replace it with a new arm that is probably nowhere near as good but is much more robot-y. The Edge robotic arm kit from ThinkGeek does require about two hours worth of snap-together assembly, but once you’ve got it put together, you’ll have a robot grabber arm with five motors, five degrees of freedom, and a wired control panel with five controls on it. It rotates and bends all kinds of ways, can reach out 13 inches and up 15 inches, ...

According to an article over at Wired, there’s some mixed news coming from Ugobe, makers of our favorite robot dinosaur. Unsurprisingly, Ugobe has been suffering due to the recent economic downturn recession, and they’re having trouble maintaining solid sales of their unquestionably adorable and unquestionably spendy robotic baby dino. About 100,000 Pleos have been sold, 60% in Europe and 30% in Asia and only 10% in the US… This sounds like a lot, but Ugobe has been forced to close ...

Among the multitude of steam powered tanks, walkers, rovers, centipedes, and just about everything else that you wouldn’t necessarily expect to be powered by toasted water is R2S2, a steam powered version of R2D2… Thanks to Robots-Dreams for the following video:

I’ve seen a lot of alarm clocks that try every evil tactic in the world to make sure that you get your lazy self out of bed. They generally make you physically get out of bed, or solve some kind of puzzle before they stop making an annoying noise. But what about an alarm that simply made you want to get up, and rewarded you for doing so? That’s exactly the idea behind the Wake n’ Bacon.

The night before, just pop in a frozen strip or two of bacon, and set the alarm. Shortly before ...

You get 13 tools in one gadget. Everything ranging from a steel file, saw, screwdriver and even an ear pick. Why you would need a special tool to pick your ear is beyond me. For $15, you really can’t go wrong here.

That was seriously one of my favorite mods, simply from the picture of a bear’s body sticking out of a USB port. Well, someone has done the unthinkable. They’ve decided to mass-produce a similar drive and sell it to the public.

However, they’ve one-upped themselves for the holiday season by turning their cards into digital cameras.

Sure, this thing isn’t exactly a Digital Rebel or anything, but getting a free 1.2-megapixel in your gift card worth $50 or more is pretty sweet. You’ll be able ...

Don’t Let Homer See Your Dough-Nu-Matic

When I moved this last time, I was happy to discover that there is a doughnut shop about a block away. What’s better, is that it’s open 12 hours a day, 6 days a week. This means that almost any time I want a chocolate covered yeast ring, I can get one. If you aren’t quite as fortunate as I when it comes to doughnut shops, then why not just make your own treats? Normally, I wouldn’t recommend trying to fry up your own doughnuts, however, this Dough-Nu-Matic changes things a bit.

Straight Up Chess Boards Make For Very Long Games

My high school, like most others, had a chess club. It wasn’t much of a club, just a collection of people playing chess in an empty classroom every Wednesday during lunch. I stopped in every now and then, so I guess that made me a member. I honestly don’t have the time to dedicate to the game anymore, however, with one of these Straight Up Chess Boards, everyone has time to play.

I’ll admit that when I first saw this, I found it ridiculous. However, the thought of only making a move ...

Shuriken Magnets, For Hanging Stuff Up Ninja-Style

A while back I wrote about some Shruiken wall tacks. Those were definitely one of the coolest office accessories that I’d seen in a while. Unfortunately, they were only a concept design, and I’ve yet to find them up for sale. On the bright side, I have managed to find something that’s almost as good.

These Shuriken Magnets might not look quite as cool, but they get the job done. The magnets look like they’re a bit thicker than tacks, but certainly have one good thing going for them. ...

Slegoon Is The Ultimate Sled

I always enjoyed sledding as a kid, but as an adult you tend to lose interest in it quickly. Sure, those few seconds you’re going down the giant hill are fun and all, but lets face it, it’s not as good as you remember it. So how do you put the fun back in sledding? You get yourself a new sled.

This Slegoon is designed to go twice as fast as a normal sled, which sounds pretty fun to me. Twice as fast means twice as dangerous, so they’ve added in some roll bars to protect you. Those ...
